For most small businesses, the majority of website visitors arrive on a phone. Yet plenty of sites are still designed on a big desktop screen and only checked on mobile as an afterthought — which gets the priority exactly backwards.

What 'mobile-first' really means

It's not just 'does it fit on a small screen'. It's designing the most important experience — the one most people actually have — first, then scaling up to larger screens.

What it looks like in practice

  • Text that's comfortable to read without zooming.
  • Buttons big enough to tap with a thumb.
  • The key action visible without endless scrolling.
  • Fast load times on a typical mobile connection.

Get the phone experience right and the desktop version almost always follows. Get it wrong, and you're quietly turning away most of your visitors before they ever see what you offer.
